Terms of Service

Welcome to Chapter ("the App"). These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the Chapter mobile application and related services (collectively, the "Service") provided by Chapter ("we," "us," or "our"). By downloading, installing, or using the App you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

1. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years of age to use Chapter. If you are between 13 and 18, you may only use the Service with the consent of a parent or legal guardian who agrees to be bound by these Terms on your behalf.

2. Accounts

To access certain features — including publishing stories — you must create an account. You agree to provide accurate, current, and complete information, and to keep it updated. You are responsible for safeguarding your account credentials and for all activity under your account.

3. User Content

"User Content" means any text, images, or other material you submit, post, or display through the Service. You retain ownership of your User Content. By publishing User Content on Chapter, you grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, display, reproduce, and distribute that content solely for the purpose of operating and improving the Service. You may delete your User Content at any time, which will terminate this license — except where the content has been shared by other users or where we are required by law to retain it.

4. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

• Post content that is illegal, defamatory, obscene, hateful, threatening, or that infringes on any third party's intellectual property or privacy rights.
• Use the Service to harass, bully, or intimidate any user.
• Upload malware, spam, or any automated content.
• Attempt to gain unauthorized access to other user accounts or our systems.
• Scrape, crawl, or use bots to collect data from the Service without our written consent.

We reserve the right to remove content and suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms.

5. In-App Purchases & Virtual Currency ("Stars")

a) Purchasing Stars

Chapter offers an in-app virtual currency called "Stars" that can be purchased through Google Play Billing. All purchases are processed by Google Play and are subject to Google Play's terms and conditions. By completing a purchase you acknowledge that you have read and agree to both these Terms and Google Play's terms of service.

b) Use of Stars

Stars may be used within the App for features such as unlocking premium content, supporting writers, or accessing other in-app services as described in the App. Stars have no value outside the Service and may only be used in the manner expressly permitted within the App.

c) No Refunds

All purchases of Stars are final and non-refundable, to the fullest extent permitted by applicable law. Once Stars are credited to your account, they cannot be reversed, refunded, or exchanged — whether they have been used or not. If you believe a purchase was made in error or without your authorization, you may contact Google Play support directly, as the transaction is processed through their billing system.

d) No Conversion to Real Currency

Stars are not real currency and do not constitute property. Stars cannot be redeemed, exchanged, transferred, or converted into real money, cash equivalents, cryptocurrency, or any other form of monetary value under any circumstances. You may not sell, trade, barter, or otherwise transfer Stars to any other person or account, whether for compensation or otherwise.

e) No Illegal Use

You agree not to use Stars, or any feature related to in-app purchases, for any unlawful, fraudulent, or unauthorized purpose. This includes but is not limited to money laundering, financing of illegal activities, exploitation of the billing system, or any activity that violates applicable local, national, or international law. We reserve the right to immediately suspend or terminate your account and forfeit any remaining Stars without notice or compensation if we reasonably believe you have engaged in such activity.

f) Modification & Discontinuation

We reserve the right to modify the price, availability, or functionality of Stars at any time. In the event that we discontinue the Stars program entirely, we will provide reasonable advance notice through the App and allow you to use your remaining balance before the program ends.

6. Intellectual Property

All rights, title, and interest in the Service (excluding User Content) — including the App's design, logo, mascot, code, and documentation — are and remain the property of Chapter. You may not copy, modify, distribute, sell, or lease any part of the Service without our prior written consent.

7. Third-Party Services

The App may contain links to or integrations with third-party services (e.g., Google Play, payment processors). We are not responsible for the content, privacy practices, or availability of those services.

8. Disclaimers

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, merchantability, or non-infringement. We do not guarantee that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure.

9. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Chapter shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits, data, or goodwill, arising from your use of the Service.

10. Termination

You may stop using the Service at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access at our discretion if you violate these Terms. Upon termination, your right to use the Service ceases immediately, though provisions that by nature survive (e.g., ownership, disclaimers, limitations of liability) will remain in effect. Any remaining Stars in a terminated account will be forfeited and cannot be refunded.

11. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. If the changes are material, we will notify you through the App or via email. Continued use of the Service after any revision constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

12. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Republic of Indonesia. Any disputes arising from these Terms shall be resolved in the courts of Indonesia.
